Following a ten year career in Radio and Television, I have remained involved with the Audio and Video performance technology. I found that my experience and interest was very helpful to the churches I attended over the years. I thus consult pro bono with churches upon occasion to help them design, purchase, install, operate and upgrade their worship support systems.
In many cases, these churches have existing equipment that performs well but is poorly installed. Often I find that soundscaping is needed to improve sound quality and occasionally equipment needs to be upgraded. I work with existing equipment and staff to minimize cost while maximizing performance that is tailored to each church's needs.
Some of my consultations and installations are listed below to give you an idea of what I do. If this sounds like something you could benefit from, feel free to contact me!
I designed, installed and maintained a simple audio system for a brand-new small church. The system was simple enough for inexperienced people to operate.
This established church had noise and feedback issues with their audio system. In addition, the vendor who installed the system (which was much more complex than necessary), left no instruction for the operators. I identified numerous feedback initiators through soundscape analysis and mitigated it with speaker placement and created detailed but simple instructions for operation after re-tuning their systems.
Since the english-speaking crowd at this multi-lingual church worshiped in a fellowship hall, I helped the existing operators tune their console and instructed them on how to more effectively operate their sound. Following that, I installed a complete, multi-mic A/V system with projector on a portable cart to support the children's worship hour. This portable system had to be self-contained and almost effortless to use without a dedicated operator.
I performed a soundscape analysis and completely re-installed the existing audio equipment to eliminate noise, simplify operation and expand capacity of the existing sound equipment. I retro-fit new technology microphones into the existing system when several mics were damaged. I also re-wired the computer and video systems including a new feed to the video fold-back monitor in front of the stage. This building was almost 70 years old.
After returning to Arlington, I was asked to install a dual-high def projector system. After researching options, I purchased and installed over $80k worth of video and audio switching equipment. The result is two huge widescreen images that can be independently switched and a fully resolved computer and audio systemic implementation. As a part of a subsequent building re-design and multi-million dollar upgrade, I designed all network, audio and video systems architecture, then I installed the infrastructure, systems, devices and software. This $250,000 installation culminated in the region's premiere A/V and communications technologies at any area Church of Christ.
I advised the team at Silver Springs on video distribution and helped them resolve digital signal issues with their projector and monitors. The team has their own installation support but has called on me from time to time for troubleshooting and guidance.
